A Quick Guide to Maintaining Truck Air Springs
For: Truck Drivers & Fleet Owners
Topic: Simple steps to keep your air springs—key to ride comfort and safety—in top condition.
Air springs are the protective cushions of your truck. Proper care prevents breakdowns and ensures a safe, smooth ride. Here’s how to maintain them.
1. Visual Check (Daily)
Look for cracks, cuts, bulges, or unusual wear on the air bellows. Check if the truck sits level on a flat surface; a sagging corner signals a leak or failure.
2. Listen for Leaks
Listen for a sharp "hissing" sound when the suspension adjusts or on rough roads—it often points to an air leak.
3. Keep It Clean
Remove stones, dirt, and debris trapped in the bellows folds. These particles can cut through the rubber over time.
4. Drive Smart
Avoid overloading and hitting potholes at high speed. Sudden impacts can damage air springs beyond repair.
When to Replace:
If you see major cracks, a large bulge, or the truck won't stay level, replace the air springs immediately. For stability, always replace them in pairs on the same axle.
