Vehicles that use air suspension today include models
The Lincoln Continental and Mark VII also featured an air suspension system in which the driver could choose how sporty or comfortable they wanted the suspension to feel. Porsche has taken this to the next level on the Panama with a system that changes the spring rate and damping settings, among other changes, for their sport/track modes
The Mark VIII suspension settings were also linked to the memory seat system, meaning that the car would automatically adjust the suspension to individual drivers. The control system in the Mark VIII lowered the suspension by about 25 mm (1 inch) at speeds exceeding about 100 km/h (60 mph) for improved aerodynamic performance. One way automakers strive to improve gas mileage is by utilizing active suspension technology. Tesla motor offers an optional "Active Air Suspension" on the Model S to lower the vehicle for aerodynamics and increased range.
The Advantages of Air Spring
These air springs (air shock absorbers) offer a favorable stroke-to-compressed-height ratio when compared to air cylinders, and they can accept a wide variety of actuation media such as air, water, nitrogen or anti-freeze. As isolators, GUOMAT Air Springs are effective in reducing the harmful effects of vibration. They can simultaneously isolate vibration and regulate load height as well as allow for consistent vibration isolation under varying loads.
Picking between the two air spring types
Bellow type: A bellow type air spring can be inflated or deflated to suit your desired firmness. Between the two types of air spring, this one offers better load handling capacity because of its larger size. This type is a good choice if you're looking for an air spring which can provide you with an improved lifting capability at lower air pressures. A bellow type air spring is usually used for heavy-duty applications such as trucks and trailers. However, this type may not be suitable for use on car's which can only accommodate smaller-sized suspension mechanisms.
Sleeve type: A sleeve type air spring is designed to have smaller size compared to its bellow counterpart. If you have a vehicle which can't fit something as large as the bellow air spring, then you should go for the sleeve type instead. This doesn't perform well when it comes to heavy loads, though.
