How to Maintain Rubber Air Springs
1. Regular inspection
Appearance inspection:
Check whether the surface of the rubber airbag has cracks, wear, bulges, cuts or signs of aging.
Pay attention to whether the joints and metal parts are firm, rusted or loose.
Air pressure inspection:
Use a pressure gauge to check whether the airbag pressure meets the manufacturer's recommended value (usually marked on the label or manual).
If the air pressure drops abnormally, there may be a leak.
2. Cleaning and protection
Cleaning method:
Wipe the surface with mild soapy water or special rubber cleaner, and avoid using strong acids, strong alkalis or organic solvents (such as gasoline, ace-tone).
Remove oil, dust or sharp debris attached to the surface.
Protective measures:
Avoid long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays (sunlight) or ozone environment, and install a protective cover if necessary.
Keep away from high temperature sources (such as engine exhaust pipes) and chemical corrosive substances.
3. Leak detection
Soap water test:
In the inflated state, apply soapy water to the airbag, air nozzle and joints to observe whether bubbles are generated.
Immersion test (applicable to small parts):
Immerse the airbag partially in water and check whether bubbles emerge.
Repair suggestions:
Minor leaks can be temporarily repaired with special rubber repair agents, but serious damage requires replacement of the airbag.
4. Lubrication and maintenance of moving parts
Lubrication points:
Apply silicone-based grease to the piston rod (if any) or metal joints to reduce friction.
Avoid using petroleum-based lubricants to avoid corrosion of rubber.
Activity check:
Ensure that the airbag does not get stuck or have abnormal friction during compression/extension.
5. Load and use specifications
Avoid overloading:
Ensure that the load is within the rated range of the air spring. Overloading will accelerate rubber fatigue.
Notes for dynamic use:
Avoid frequent overload shocks (such as vehicles passing potholes at high speed). Steady and uniform operation can extend the life.
6. Long-term out-of-service maintenance
Storage conditions:
Keep the airbag slightly inflated (about 10-20% rated pressure) to avoid adhesion or deformation of the rubber layer.
Store in a cool and dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Regular activation:
Inflate and deflate every 1-2 months to prevent rubber hardening.
7. Replacement cycle
Life reference:
Rubber air springs usually have a service life of 5-8 years (depending on the use environment).
If there is obvious aging (such as cracking, elasticity reduction), repeated leakage or functional failure, it should be replaced in time.
Replace in pairs:
In vehicles or symmetrical systems, it is recommended to replace the left and right or front and rear airbags at the same time to maintain balance performance.
8. Professional maintenance
Regular professional inspection:
Technicians conduct a comprehensive inspection every year, including air tightness, suspension alignment, etc.
System matching:
When replacing, ensure that the new airbag model is compatible with the original system (such as pressure range, size).
The above maintenance measures can significantly improve the reliability and durability of rubber air springs. If any abnormality is found (such as abnormal noise, tilt or unstable air pressure), the machine should be stopped immediately for inspection to avoid the expansion of the fault.
